Omani students win awards at the 2026 International Science and Engineering Fair
A water-treatment project placed fourth worldwide in environmental engineering, and a classroom-AI project won a special award from the American Psychological Association.
Two Omani teams, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, returned from the International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States with awards. The fair spans 22 scientific disciplines, including engineering, computer science and social sciences.
- Environmental engineering — 4th place worldwide: two students from Al-Amal School in South Al Batinah built a passive water-treatment system for oil-production wastewater that combines ophiolite rock, plasmonic technology and photocatalysis.
- Social and behavioural sciences — special award: two students from Saad bin Abi Waqas School in North Al Batinah developed an AI system that analyses and supports student interaction in the classroom, earning a special award and student membership from the American Psychological Association.
