Oman’s R&D spending reached RO189.42 million in 2025, national survey shows
Spending nearly doubled from RO98.26 million in 2021 to 0.48% of GDP, and the number of researchers rose to 18,193.
The 2025 National Survey of Research and Experimental Development, conducted by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, puts total R&D spending at RO189.42 million, up from RO98.26 million in 2021. That equals 0.48% of GDP at constant prices (0.45% at current prices).
- Who spends: private sector 46%, government 31%, higher education 23%.
- People: 35,539 R&D staff in total (67% male, 33% female), including 18,193 researchers, up from 13,576 in 2024.
- Full-time researchers: 1,242 per million people, up from 725 in 2024.
